Statement on Marriage
As a church wholly committed to the truth and authority of Scripture, on January 3, 2016, the membership of Burtonsville Baptist Church approved the following Statement on Marriage. This statement does not express a new conviction we recently adopted; instead, we felt it necessary to articulate clearly a biblical conviction we have held throughout the life of our church.
While we understand the definition of marriage is a highly emotional issue for many individuals because it involves notions of love and human dignity, we believe that upholding the teachings of Scripture is the most loving action that affirms human dignity from an eternal perspective.
This Statement on Marriage is in full accord with our church's Statement of Faith.
Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and Himself, Burtonsville Baptist Church will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman. Further, the pastors and staff of Burtonsville Baptist Church shall only participate in weddings and solemnized marriages between one man and one woman. Finally, the facilities and property of Burtonsville Baptist Church shall only host weddings between one man and one woman.
